The Archive Service is responsible for the official records of West Lothian Council and its predecessors, including:
West Lothian District Council, West Lothian County Council, Lothian Regional Council (records relating to the area now in West Lothian), Livingston Development Corporation.
Burghs (to 1975): Armadale; Bathgate; Linlithgow; Whitburn.
Parishes (to 1930): Abercorn; Bathgate; East Calder; Ecclesmachan; Kirknewton; Linlithgow; Livingston; Mid Calder; Torphichen; Uphall; West Calder; Whitburn.
District Councils (1930-1975): East Calder District Council; Linlithgow District Council; Torphichen and Bathgate District Council; Uphall District Council; West Calder District Council; Whitburn and Livingston District Council.
County Councils: Records for those parts of West Lothian that formed part of Linlithgowshire and Midlothian before local government reorganisation in 1975.
Schools and School Boards: Admission registers, log books, photographs.
