| Activity | Arising from concerns expressed at the Social Worker's Lunch Club and in Livingston's Community Council, the Livingston Voluntary Organisations Council was formed in April 1974 to act as a support agency, and coordinating body, for the growing number of voluntary, community and leisure groups within Livingston. It was to provide a common voluntary sector response to the socials needs of the town as it continued to grow.
The Voluntary Organisations Council offered organisational information, advice and assistance, as well as administrative support and help with fundraising. They also undertook to represent the views of the voluntary sector on certain issues. The Queens Silver Jubilee Committee, the UN International Year of Women display at Howden House, and the YWCA house in Craigshill, were all initiatives in which the Voluntary Organisations Council took a partnership/leading role.
The Voluntary Organisations Council was subsumed into Voluntary Action West Lothian in 1993. |
