| AdminHistory | The Corporation Board met once every month, usually on the third Friday. There were, on occasions, special Board meetings called to discuss a particular issue. The Corporation's Secretary and Legal Advisor set the agenda, provided papers, and took the minutes. The Legal Department was responsible for the safekeeping of the minutes. As the Board had to be satisfied as to the achievements and direction of the Corporation, meetings covered every aspect of Corporation activity, from general policies of development, to evictions of tenants for arrears of rent, to the formation of community clubs and publicity events, to the design and location of houses, factories and any other building in the town.
A system developed over time whereby the Chief Officers of each department met the week prior to the Board meeting to discuss which items need escalation and approval by the Corporation Board.
The first meeting was in April 1962 and the last March 1997. There 450 Board meetings in total. |
