AdminHistory | Any organisation can apply for (and pay for) a coat of arms. In Scotland this function is undertaken by the Court of the Lord Lyon which authorizes and devises the coat of arms that are granted to the organisation. The Livingston Development Corporation's Coat of Arms bears the two gillyflowers of the Earl of Livingston, the primrose of Lord Roseberry and a representation of the River Almond. It was granted on the 30th April 1963.
The Corporation Board had wanted two supporters to represent Edinburgh and Glasgow and Livingston acting as a central link between the two, but the Lord Lyon rejected this on the grounds it would make Livingston appear subservient to the two cities. |
