AdminHistoryThere were two initial industrial estates planned at the time of Livingston's designation - Houstoun, and Deans. By 1973 the land set aside for these two areas was reaching saturation. Following debate over the best use of the land, Kirkton Campus was finally appropriated as a high technology and science industrial park in 1972. A third industrial park was planned at Linhouse to the south east of Livingston but negotiations with Midlothian County Council were stalled by the re-organisation of local authorities in 1975, several attempts to develop Linhouse as an industrial estate over the following two decades, but these did not succeed. Instead, in 1977, Brucefield, to the southwest of the town was developed and expanded several times during the Corporation's lifetime.
