AdminHistory | The Development Corporation was not responsible for the erection of schools in Livingston, this was the responsibility of the local authority (Midlothian County Council until 1975, then from 1975-1996 Lothian Regional Council). If the local authority deemed there was the need for a school in a particular area, they approached the Corporation and a plot was agreed. Sites for proposed schools were sold to Schools Authorities (usually Lothian Regional Council) at an independently assessed valuation by the District Valuer. The valuation was based on a market evaluation of the ground for housing purposes. If the site was disposed of as a school site then it was usually stipulated that it could not be developed as anything else without express permission of the Development Corporation. |
