AdminHistoryWith the establishment of the New Town several churches created new congregations. The Corporation had little responsibility in this area. As managers of non-residential property the Commercial Directorate arranged the sale of premises for worship, or disposed of land to bodies wanting to buy whilst Legal and Administration attended to the legal and administrative tasks associated with the sale of land and property.

ScopeandContent13 legal and administrative files detailing the process of sale of plots of land within Livingston to church bodies and other religious organisations for use as places of worship. Files include correspondence with solicitors/agents, internal memos, copies of maps and deed plans as well as any other administrative and legal papers regarding the plot in question. As the Corporation retained its right to act as the feu superior, it kept files for many years after the initial sale as prospective buyers contacted them regarding any limitations of use that might exist on the plot.
