AdminHistory | The Development Corporation was not responsible for the erection of schools in Livingston, this was the responsibility of the local authority (from 1975-1996, Lothian Regional Council). If the local authority deemed there was the need for a school in a particular area, they approached the Corporation and a plot was agreed. Sites for proposed schools were sold to Schools Authorities (usually Lothian Regional Council) at an independently assessed valuation by the District Valuer. The valuation was based on a market evaluation of the ground for housing purposes. If the site was disposed of as a school site then it was usually stipulated that it could not be developed as anything else without express permission of the Development Corporation.
As managers of non-residential property the Commercial Directorate arranged the sale of premises for worship, or disposed of land to bodies wanting to buy whilst Legal and Administration attended to the legal and administrative tasks associated with the sale of land and property. |
