AdminHistoryIndustrial tenants could move to Livingston in a number of ways. They could commission purposefully built accomodation; lease a newly built but standard factory; lease a factory that had previously been occupied; or build thier own accomodation.

Most large ventures moving to Livingston required some kind of tailored accomodation. this occurred by either having a factory built to the firm's specifications, or by having one of the Corporation's standard advance factories customised. Most major industrial ventures in Livingston were thus assigned a Factory Project Number by the Corporation, each new project gaining a unique identification. There were notable exceptions to this system, most notably being the Cameron iron Works, which was concieved and implemented before the practice of Factory Project numbers had taken hold.

ScopeandContentThis series represents those industrial ventures in Livingston which did not recieve factory project numbers. Reasons for this vary, but in most instances it was due to the firm either moving into an industrial space that had been previously occupied and required little modification; or, as in the case of Pringle Ltd, Patersons Ltd, or British Telecom, the company leased land only before erecting its own premises.
