AdminHistory | New Town Development Corporation's occupied a rather anamolous position in lcoal government, being responsible for some functions that would normally have been the remit of Local Authorites, (variously, between 1962-1996, County Councils, District Councils and Regional Councils) - for example, functions of the Corporation that would normally belong to a local authority included local authority housing and being the local planning authority.
There were a number of co-operative committees set up bewteen the local authorities and the Corporation so as to ensure that resources were adequately distributed and planning for the provision of services was undertaken in a co-ordinated manner. |
