AdminHistoryThe Corporation used a Central Registry to manage its records from the creation of its first office in Edinburgh in 1962 until the late 1980s, at which point the Central Registry was disbanded into an Administrative/Legal registry and a Technical Registry. At this point the files were removed from a central location and housed with parent departments.

The Registry system covered Legal, Administrative and Technical records and included both a law library and a technical library. Finance, Housing, Quantity Surveyors and the Commercial Directorate (Industrial Estates and Development) did not use the registry system for their own files.

Administration and Legal operated as one department until 1990. However, given the separation in professional responsibilities between the two functions and the need for specialisation, they operated largely independently of one another by the late 1980s with a separate Depute for each section.

The Legal department was responsible for leases, disposals, acquisitions, department recovery, contract acceptances and disputes, issuing superiors consents, safekeeping of corporation title deeds, secretariat to the board and any other legal work required by the Corporation. It is these files, especially those concerned with land and property, that constitute the vast majority of the records in the Legal and Administration Registry.

The Adminstration section was responsible for personnel, staff training, health and safety, office services and ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of Corporation departments.
