AdminHistory | In 1988 Muir Construction Ltd were contracted for the construction of houses at Eliburn East 3a. The properties were built but a dispute arose over claims submitted by Muir for costs, losses and expenses incurred allegedly as result of extended time granted by the project architect. These claims were not resolved through the contract verification system and the case went to arbitration.
Muir claimed for £144,865. The Corporation felt that it could answer many of Muir's points but, in turn, that the arbiter would find in favour of Muir on several issues, as well as finding the Corporation liable for the expenses of the arbitration. As arbitration cost £700-£1000 a day, and was likely to last a minimum of 21 days, the Corporation decided to offer a settlement of £85,000 to Muir, which was accepted in 1992. |
