Housing policy
AdminHistoryGiven the repetitive nature of common issues and problems resulting from much of the work of the Housing Department, a standard set of policy and procedure notes were produced. These provided staff with a comprehensive set of standard procedures. For example, these notes, and standard letters, cover the procedure and policy of how staff should deal with rent arrears, damage to houses by smoke, eviction proceedings, abandoned cars, what to do in the case of family breakdown, how to deal with planning applications, garden extensions, pigeon loft sights, furniture stored in garages, and nearly every aspect of the work of the housing department.

ScopeandContentA master set of these notes was created in 1981 and updated piecemeal through the 1980s (LDC/PS/2/2/1/2). The master set was then systematically updated between 1991-1994 by the Development Section of the Housing Department, for which a full set also exists (LDC/PS/2/2/1/3-6). Some practice notes prior to 1980 exist in the management's copy (LDC/PS/2/2/1/1) but these are not comprehensive.
