AdminHistory | Rent arrears concerned a tenant falling into debt to the Corporation by not paying their rent. In the 1970s and 1980s the Finance Office dealt with arrears for the first two months by correspondence. After two months the case was considered serious and the tenant's file passed to the Housing Department. Visits were then made to tenants by officers from the Area Housing Office. Advice would be offered on the benefits available, and an attempt to agree a repayment plan would be made. A rent arrears working party was formed in 1984 to address the issue of rent arrears. It produced a report in 1988. |
