AdminHistory | In June 1984, the Board of the Corporation agreed to a policy of tenant participation, which included giving Livingston residents a wider choice of tenure. In March 1986, with the Scottish Office approval for the redevelopment of the Knightsridge 4 area, it was suggested that the area might benefit from the creation of Co-operative. It was eventually decided that the local community was already committeed fully to refurbishment, and creating a Co-operative would be over burdensome. A new build site in Livingston was then decided upon and the Eliburn East site was chosen.
A task team was set up to manage the creation of the co-operative. Although initially seen by the Scottish Office as reducing the workload for those responsible for managing public housing, creating the Eliburn Tenant Management Co-operative was a labour intensive process. Whilst in the process of creating the Co-operative, the Community Development Officer spent 90% of his work time on the scheme, and there were over 250 interviews to identify suitable tenants. |
