AdminHistory | From 1971 the Livingston Development Corporation used the Scottish New Towns Computer Service batch rent accounting system. By 1982 the system was out of date, inefficient and difficult to maintain - the system was run twice weekly and the resulting reports delivered to the Corporation by secure delivery. Additionally, much statistical information was available on the computer system but inaccessible to staff, who had to prepare reports by hand.
Given this variety of issues, in 1983 the Scottish New Towns Computer Service was commissioned to prepare a feasibility study for creating a new LINC (Logic and Information Network Compiler) based Rent Accounting System. The costs of the study were to be split between Livingston, East Kilbride, Glenrothes and Irvine Development Corporations.
The new housing computer system was in place by 1986, from which point computers played an increasing role in the work of the housing department with regular meetings amongst senior housing staff to address issues in the working of system. |
