AdminHistory | Care in the Community was a government policy that aimed to support dependent people, either physically or mentally disabled, in their own home, rather than in an institution. The Livingston Development Corporation was required, as one of the statuory bodies of the Lothian region, to participate in a Community Care plan as a result of the Audit Commission report, the 1988 Griffiths report, the 1989 White Paper "Caring for People", and the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990. Bodies in the Lothian region that were required to liaise on the creation of Community Care Plan included Lothian Regional Council, Lothian Health Board, the four Lothian District Councils, the Development Corporation, Scottish Homes, the Housing Association Forum for Edinburgh/Lothian and associated voluntary groups.
The majority of the Corporation's contribution came in the Housing Department. For example, in 1992 the Scottish Association for Mental Health requested the provision of a house as part of the Core and Cluster Project. |
