AdminHistory | The Community Affairs Liaison Group was formed in May 1979 to effect a closer liaison between Livingston Development Corporation and Lothian Regional Council on issues of social importance. It codified its structure and remit in November 1981 and listed 3 main purporses:
1. To be a forum for authorities providing community services in Livingston; including the initiation of joint projects and plans; the discussion of common issues; and to inform each other of individual activities. 2. To co-ordinate the bringing together of planning and programming of developments by Corporation, Regional Council and others, which have an impact of Commnity Affairs in the town. 3. To be a 'watch dog': to monitor community affairs in the town and stimulate action by authorities represented on the working party.
Membership of the body was soon expanded to include West Lothian District Council, representatives of Livingston Voluntary Organisations Council and representatives of church groups.
The working party met every 6 to 8 week, alternating between Livingston and Edinburgh. It was intended that members of the working party have senior positions, thus allowing a forum where information exchange on social planning and policy could take place, with the aim of co-ordinating planning and provision of services, and to assess and monitor the effects of current policy in community development. |
