AdminHistory | Braid House was a day centre for the elderly that aimed to support a reasonable standard of life whilst allowing the person to remain in their own home. They were funded from public funds, directed to them by Lothian Region Social Work Department. Pensioners were referred to the day centre by a referral committee of a Home Care Officer, a Health Visitor, a Doctor, and a Minister. In 1991 they had a waiting list of 50. They maintained mini-buses to bring the elderly person from their home to the centre and offered bathing facilities, some medical attention and a hot midday meal.
In 1987 Braid House Day Centre moved to the specially converted former Howden Health Centre, which had been adapted and leased by the Livingston Development Corporation. It catered for 80 elderly persons per day and was the largest centre of its kind in the region at the time. |
