AdminHistory | The Livingston Youth Action Project was formed in 1992 and aimed to work with young people, aged eleven to eighteen, from targeted areas of Livingston who were at risk of offending, and to engage with them in a constructive way to reduce their involvement in crime by promoting positive alternatives.
The group operated from Eliburn Community House, employed one full time Project Director and was managed by a Management Committee. The Management Committee contained representatives from Livingston Police department, Community Education, Social Work Department, Crime Prevention Panel and local councillors.
The project aimed to make contact with young people in their own neighbourhoods, encourage them to examine their lives and environment, enable them to identify key issues and problems, and increase their confidence.
The Livingston Development Corporation agreed to direct £10,000 per annum towards the project at a board meeting in 1991, which was to be matched by Lothian Regional Council, West Lothian District Council and Crime Concern Scotland. The Corporation was represented on the project board. |
