AdminHistory | Livingston Community Council was the first in Scotland. It evolved out of the earliest community participation body in the town, the Forum. By 1970 numbers attending Forum were dropping and a successor body was needed. The Community Council for Livingston was to represent public opinion and to act as a link between the community and the Corporation. Its first meetings were held in 1972 and consisted of up to four elected members from each of the six Livingston housing developments.
In 1975 Community Councils were established throughout Scotland as part of Local Government Reform and Livingston's town wide council was disbanded and replaced by eight district-based bodies. |
