TitleDepartment Reference 10 - Designated Area
Date1965-1996
TermSigns and signboards
AdminHistoryIn 1962, the designated area for the town was to comprise an area of 6,692 acres. this was slightly increased in the mid-1970s in a process of rationalisation, and to acquire land for further development as industrial estates on the south of the town.

Navigation in Livingston was at one point notorious. Despite it's grid like pattern housing estates were often numbered in a clock wise manner meaning, for example, that number 16 could be opposite 132 (rather than 17).
