AdminHistoryIn order to develop the designated area, it was necessary to have ownership of the land to minimise disruption to planned developments. The Corporation was fortunate in that the majority of the land was owned by Lord Primrose, the Earl of Roseberry, who was willing to sell. Similarly, other owners in the area were willing to negotiate a sale. However, a number of compulsory purchases were required for those unwilling to give up their land, and the Corporation was empowered to make such compulsory purchases under its designation order. The price given for compulsory orders was based on the market value as decided by the District Valuer.

Acquisitions were made throughout the Corporation's life time, for a variety of reasons, though the majority of purchases came in the 1960s and 1970s.
