AdminHistory | Corporation housing was allocated to tenants based on a strict policy that had to be approved by the Corporation's Board. There was no requirement to provide housing for general purposes. Upon application for housing the applicant was categorized. The Development Corporation was created in 1962 with the purpose of providing an area for population overspill for Glasgow and through the 1960s prospective tenants moving from Glasgow had priority. In the 1970s, when it was clear that there was no longer the demand from Glasgow for overspill, the focus changed to bringing industry to the Central Belt of Scotland and the housing and allocations policy was then designed to support economic development and growth. By 1991, the priority of categories for the offering of Corporation housing consisted of:
A) Key Incoming Workers. B) Second Generation Family. C) Parents of Livingston Residents D) Homeless/Urgent Social Needs. E) Employment and non-Livingston second generation. F) Other Livingston Residents. G) Special needs. H) Other groups who qualify - in absence of demand from other groups.
A number of ancilliary policies developed over time, for example, in relation to those tenants who wished to exchange with another tenant; or for those historic houses let to tenants on the provision that they took on a caretaker role. |
