AdminHistory | Local plans were prepared by local planning authorities and set planning policy in the area. When considering new developments the local plan had to be referred to and the development considered in light of the policy set out in the local plan. In 2006 they were superseded in Scotland by Local Development Plans.
The Corporation, as the planning authority for Livingston prepared the Livingston local plan on behalf of the newly formed West Lothian Council, as the Corporation approached dissolution.
Similarly, when other districts of West Lothian prepared Local Plans the Corporation was consulted. The Corporation often defended what it saw as Livingston's pre-eminent position as regional shopping location, and usually objected to any large shopping centres planned in the locality. |
