TermHistoric buildings
AdminHistoryThere were a number of listed buildings, and other sites of historical interest within Livingston. A listed building can not be substantially altered or demolished without prior consent from relevant local authority, which, in the case of Livingston, was confirmed by the Scottish Development Department in 1975 as being West Lothian District Council for buildings of historic interest.

When developing new areas of the town, the Corporation also had to undertake/fund a number of archaeological excavations to ensure that there was no risk of damage to any historic sites.
