TitleEmployer and Employment Surveys
Date1967-1996
AdminHistoryOne of the main functions of the Livingston Development Corporation was to create jobs and encourage economic growth. As a result it carried out annual surveys of employment in Livingston by writing to all employers within the designated area. Barring a slight decline from 1980 to 1982 during recession, the level of employment in Livingston rose steadily.

Until the late 1970s the majority of increase in employment was in manufacturing, but in line with the general trend across the UK, the service sector began to play an increasingly important role.
