AdminHistoryThe Iona Community was founded in 1938 by the Rev George MacLeod and is based on the old abbey on the isle of Iona. The Community has a strong ecumenical emphasis, and it was Maitland's meeting with MacLeod that was to influence the development of his own ecumenical leanings. Maitland acted as a warden in the Iona Community's house in Glasgow for four years, 1954-1958 and was a full memeber from 1944-1967, before stepping back to concentrate on the Ecumenical Experiment.
