AdminHistory | Both before and after his retirement James Maitland, and his wife, Elizabeth Maitland, took an active interest in the civic affairs of Livingston and West Lothian. In their early years in Livingston (the 1960s) they played an instrumental role in the development of Livingston's community and were often involved in tenant's groups - such as the "Leaking Flats Committee" which formed in the wake of poorly constructed housing. After Maitland's retirement in 1983 they continued to contribute to the community - for example, Elizabeth Maitland was on the board of a local primary school. |
