AdminHistory | In 1966 James Donald and Co. changed its name to Chieftain Forge Ltd. and moved to premises adjoining Bathgate Forge. In 1967, the Bathgate Forge went into liquidation and amalgamated with Chieftain Forge Ltd. Soon after, they began to focus on the manufacturing of tools and equipment for forestry work. 1986 sees more changes when Chieftain Forge (1986) Ltd. was formed. This new company took over from and became the tenant to Chieftain Forge Ltd. Unfortunately, this was not enough to boost business and in 1989 the shovel works closed. In 1996, Chieftain Forge (1986) Ltd. ended their lease and the old company bought back the machinery to donate to the Almond Valley Heritage Trust. The business then moved to Guideon Street in Bathgate and in 2002 moved to Whiteside Industrial Estate where it continues to this day.
