AdminHistory | The Clifton Hall Estate is situated in Newbridge, Midlothian. A mansion, which later became Clifton Hall School, was built on the estate in 1857.
Clifton Hall was purchased by Robert Bell, who was a oil and shale industry pioneer, in the 1880's. When he died in the late 19th century the estate was broken up with the remains left to his family. Having already acquired one of the farms, St Cuthbert’s Co-operative Society Limited went on to purchase the rest of the Clifton Hall estate from the family in the early 20th century. |
