AdminHistory | The Chief Executive was responsible to the Board for the efficient and effective operation of the Corporation. He was responsible for the general management and co-ordination of the various departments in carrying out the policies as laid out by the Board. The Chief Executive was particularly concerned with the physical planning of the town in liaison with the Scottish Office, Lothian Regional Council and West Lothian District Council. The Chief Executive was also responsible for the attraction of industrial and commercial ventures; the development of housing, community, leisure, and recreational facilities.
There were two General Managers: Arthur Purches, 1962-1971, and SEM Wright, 1971-1977; and two Chief Executives: James Wilson, 1977-1987, and James Pollock, 1987-1997. James Pollock was the only Chief Executive appointed from internal candidates, having previously been Commercial Director at the Corporation from 1977-1987. |
