AdminHistorySoroptimist International is the largest worldwide service organisation for women in management and the professions, with more than 3000 clubs in over 120 countries. Soroptimists work through their service in projects to advance human rights and the status of women. The organisations main ideals are: the advancement of the status of women, high ethical standards, human rights for all, equality, development and peace through international goodwill, understanding and friendship.

The West Lothian branch of the Soroptimists was chartered by Miss G P Thyer-Jones, Federation President, at a dinner held in Bathgate on 16 November 1962 as a daughter club of the Falkirk with two sister clubs which are Stirling and Dunblane. The West Lothian club attracts members from all over the county with numbers normally being between 35-40 and participates in an inter-club evening annually.

The West Lothian Soroptimists have always played a full part in all Region and Federation activities, whether conferences were held in Glasgow or conventions in Rome, Istanbul and Melbourne. Closer to home they have helped with the transportation of disabled children and the refurbishing of a Women's Aid premises while also helping out other organisations such as The Red Cross. These activities are balanced out with fun activities that include concerts and duck egg races amongst them to give a rounded experience of the society.
