ActivityFormed in 1966 with just twelve companies, by 1979 there were over one hundred and twenty as members of the Livingston Industrial & Commercial Association. The Association sought to welcome new firms to the town and aided the Livingston Development Corporation in attracting new businesses to Livingston. The Association also lobbied the Corporation on behalf of members, engaged with local schools and arranged training for youngsters as well as organising talks and events. In 1986, in its first directory of business in Livingston the ILA stated that: "The main objectives of the Association are to foster, promote, protect, maintain and encourage by all lawful means the civic, commercial and industrial welfare and interest of the proprietors."
