AdminHistory | Livingston Development Corporation went through a number of organisational changes. From the start of the Development Corporation in 1962 the Chief Engineer, Chief Architect and Planning Officer and Director of Works represented the technical aspects of the Corporation's work. A restructuring in 1982 saw the formation of the Technical Directorate with Planning & Landscape, Quantity Surveying and Architectural Services. The Engineering aspect of the Corporation's work was added to the Technical Directorate in 1988. The Planning Department was the first function to transfer to West Lothian Council in April 1996. The rest of the Directorate followed by 31 December 1996.
The Chief Architect and Planning Officer was responsible for the overall planning of Livingston and, under the supervision and direction of the Board, largely determined the town's character. There were three Chief Architects and Planning Officers/Technical Directors: Peter Daniels, 1963-1965; William Newman Brown, 1965-1982, and Gordon Davies, 1982-1996. |
